Virtual Machine Viewer Requiring Re-Connect from Secondary Virtual Machine Manager Console

$

I have two systems with the Virtual Manager Console installed. The first is the VMM Server itself, running VMM 2016. The Virtual Machine Viewer works perfectly when logged into the VMM server. However, when using the Virtual Machine Viewer on a second system (specifically an RDS Session Host), the Virtual Machine Viewer will always fail to connect initially. It eventually displays "An internal error has occurred" (0x0004, 0x0000). If I (or another user) click on File...Reconnect it will connect up to the system without issue. This is happening on VMs running on both Server 2016 hosts and Server 2012 R2 hosts. Has anybody else seen this issue?

MS System Center 2012 R2 - Configuration Analyzer 1.0 results

Hello,

I have a VMM environment consisting of 1 VMM server and 1 SQL DB server.  While I'm trying to set things up correctly, I followed some best practices and ran the baseline configuration analyzer.  Please see screenshot for results.  What I don't understand is that it indicates "No required update or hotfix information exists for VMMSERVER1.CONTOSO.COM" but it does not give me any indication what hotfixes are missing.

Category:

Prerequisite

Source:

vmmserver1

Issue:

The VMMCA does not have a list of required hotfixes for the operating system of the specified server.

Impact:

VMM may not function correctly or at all with the specified server (note that this does not apply to the VMM console, as the console can be installed in client operating systems and therefore this rule can be ignored).

Resolution:

If the computer is being used or will be used for any of the VMM server roles: host, library, PXE server, WSUS server, or VMM management server, ensure that it has a supported server operating system (Windows Server 2008 or a later version).

I have run windows update on this machine and all the other machines the baseline analyzer is reporting and windows update does not find any new important updates.  I'm new to VMM and need to know if I am setting things up correctly.  Could someone shed some light on this?  Also, what is the best way to update VMM (latest updates and patches for VMM)?  I am running System Center 2012 R2 VMM and my SQL server is version 2014.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Thank you,

Rumi

Linux Agent Issue - agent is not correctly installed on new vm

Hi experts,

i'm using scvmm template to deploy centos 6.5&7.0 vm, here is my issue i got:

1.I  followed this article https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj860429(v=sc.12).aspx to install the agent successfully.

2.I installed LIS4.1 on template machine successfully.

3.I can see vmmagentguest service is in running state on the template machine.

4.My vmm server is 2012 r2 with ur10, i can create a linux vm with that template without any errors from vmm job console.

But there is no linux agent service running on that newly created vm, there is a folder /opt/microsoft but nothing exist under that folder.

Is this normal or can i just ignore it ? should it be a sub-folder vmmguestagent exist under /opt/microsoft/?

storage not listing correctly in SCVMM

In my old Server 2008 cluster, the cluster shared volume shows up as Remote Storage (using iSCSI connections to a SAN volume).

<v:shape alt="" id="_x0000_i1025" style="width:582.75pt;height:243.75pt;" type="#_x0000_t75">
<v:imagedata o:href="cid:image005.png@01D2217A.D127F830" src="file:///C:/Users/00926773/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image001.png">
</v:imagedata></v:shape>
Using the same method in the new Server 2012 cluster, the cluster shared volume shows up, but has no Current Owner or Classification. This is preventing me from migrating additional VM's into the new cluster.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

NVGRE Gateway VM - Route between isolated and non-isolated networks

Good Evening All,

I'm trying to configure a new development environment using Hyper-V/VMM/Azure Pack on Server 2012 R2 and SCVMM 2012 R2 (UR11) and am having a lot of difficulty with the Windows Server Gateway (NVGRE) function. The host network configuration is two physical LANs 10.0.0.0/23 (External) and 192.168.4.0/22 (Private). I have two hosts in a "Management" group that contain the DEV.LOCAL DCs, SQL, SCVMM, etc. all on the 192.168.4.0/22 network. I've carved out a subnet of that network to serve as the Provider Address space and it is seen by all 5 hosts. All management of the "untrusted" hosts in a separate domain is conducted through the 10.0.0.0/23 subnet through a RRAS router in the 192.168.4.0/22 space.

Two hosts are in a "Tenant" group that can see the PA network and has two clients in an isolated VM network (192.168.12.0/22). The final host is my "Gateway" running a stand-alone gateway VM per the configuration in this white paper https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a. I've also verified that the provider addresses on the hosts and customer lookup records all appear correct.

I've been able to verify that the Tenant VMs in 192.168.12.0/24 can talk to one another and can ping their VM Network gateway at 192.168.12.1. I additionally created a separate VM with two NICs on the Tenant (12.0/22) and Management (4.0/22) subnets and can contact both networks independently but not through the router.

The Gateway VM has a 3 NICs, one in the 10.0.0.0/23 (this one has a default gateway), 192.168.4.0/22 (no default gateway), and one connected to the logical switch but not mapped to a VM Network.

My two questions are, is it even possible to route between the provider address/management space and an isolated VM network (all running on the same logical switch)? Are there any suggestions for configuring the gateway to allow this traffic, or troubleshooting information? Could it be as simple as the Network Service connection string missing a parameter?

Thanks in advance,
David

Hi,

I want to update Rollup in Scvmm 2012 R2. The latest update rollup available is SCVMM 2012 R2 Update Rollup 11 (2016 August 23). But I have not installed its earlier update rollup too like 8, 9 & 10. Can I directly install update rollup 11 and should I get all the updates available in 8.9 & 10 or should I have to install in sequence like 8, 9, 10 then 11. Kindly suggest

Hello!

Just applied latest hotfix on VMM 2012 R2 UR11  in order to deploy Windows 2016 Server as guest OS. After creation and shutdown VM I can't create VM template. Note: I'm still able to create VM template of Windows Server 2012 R2.

Cannot add Server 2016 host to VMM 2016

We had a working VMM 2012R2 environment that was recently upgraded to 2016. We had not tried installing a new machine in years. With VMM 2016, I tried to add a server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host but it would continue to fail at multiple stages. I decided to wait until 2016 was available and format the server and add it. Even with a fresh install of Server 2016 I cannot get the host added.

It will go through the steps of installing the agent with a success and then says the install failed. The machine is then stuck with a status of "adding".

Here is the vmm agent install log. I would appreciate any help. I have tried many steps including rebuilding WMI and fixing perf counters, although I would think they would be a good on a clean install.

VMM Refresh fail due to  VirtualHardDisk object id

VMM Maintenance mode fail

I have tried the following  insturction to delete the stale records from SQL DB "https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2756886" and that didn't help . Everything is working normal in Hyper-V Cluster console.

I have a solution to fix the individual VM in VMM, but i want to fix all the issues like maintenance mode, refresh all VM etc..

I have followed the below instruction to resolve single VM state issue.

I have migrated the VM(xyz) using Hyper-V cluster to different host, powered off the VM(xyz). I have also created a copy of disks for safer option, then I have deleted the missing, failed state VM(xyz) using below VMM powershell. We couldn't see the updated VM(xyz) details in VMM console until we completed the second live migration of VM(xyz) to different host using Cluster console. The below script did not touch the Hyper-V cluster VM(xyz)

Get-SCVirtualMachine | where { $_.Name -EQ “xyz“} | Remove-SCVirtualMachine –Force

We are using TSM to backup the Hyper-V cluster. TSM Manager is not having any option to integrate the backup with VMM

TSM creates snapshot everyday and delete the snapshot next day after running the backup. VMM is getting confused due to multiple disk changes in the backend.

BSOD on Host just added to SCVMM (Both SRV2016)

Hello and good morning/afternoon.

We are experiencing problems adding Hyper-V hosts in to SCVMM.

The procedure itself (Adding host to SCVMM) completed successfully,

But right after the job has finished, the host is getting BSOD with "Inaccessible Boot Device" Massage.

I have tried multiple hosts and SCVMMs but it still happens...

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Storage classification missing on cluster object level in SCVMM 2012 R2

Hi All,

Currently I am testing SCVMM 2012 R2 UR11 behavior when a single LUN is presented to group of hosts that are joined in Failover Cluster. The setup is:

  • Cluster CLU03 using Windows Server 2012 R2 with latest patches
  • Host 03 - Presented storage: Lun1, Lun2
  • Host 04 - Presented storage: Lun1

Both LUNs are added as CSV and are visible in Failover Cluster console. When I refresh the cluster in SCVMM, the refresh completes succesfully - CSVs are visible for both hosts, have "Available for placement" checked and storage classification is set on the Host 03. (Storage classification is not set on Host 04 because the disk is not visible in storage section).

Unfortunately on cluster object level in SCVMM the LUN have issues and cannot be used for automated provisioning. You can see on the picture below that the LUN2 current owner is unknown and the same goes for the Storage Classification.

Have you ever faced this?

In my opinion this is a bug in SCVMM 2012 R2.

Will there be support for Server 2016 in System Center 2012 R2?

Hello,

I've been having a bit of trouble gathering resources on support for Server 2016 for System Center 2012 R2. Is Microsoft planning to deploy and update for 2016 VM's  or will we be forced to upgrade to System Center 2016.

Unfortunately, we once had to rebuild our infrastructure when 2012 R2 came out because there was no support for it in VMM 2007.

We are usually bleeding edge and always up to date, however, planning to migrate 80+ VM's will take some time.

Maybe I missed something on my "narrowed down searches."

Thanks.

Cheers, James

VMM --> Cluster --> Hyper-V --> VM Network Questions

Hi,

Ask a help. What I have: a cluster with 10 hosts (Win2012R2) with Standard Switch (trunk from physical switch --> team of two NICs) on each host, divided into logical adapters: Management, Live Migration, Heartbeat and one VLAN shares between VM by hands on each VM's adaper by VLAN setting. Team was balanced by Hyper-V Port. On virtual switch was enabled QoS and network metric (Heartbeat, Live Migration and Management). VMs are placed in CSV which connected by fiber to each host.

Now I have to add cluster to VMM 2012R2. What I've already done: added cluster to VMM. All works fine. Got one host for tests but left it on the cluster. For this host I created logical network with lan and sites. Added IP Pools for heartbeat and Live Migration networks. Added VLAN for VMs. Created Port with team and dynamic balance. Created Logical Switch. After created VM network. Then I tried to add this network to existed VMs and their adapers didn't find any VM networks. If I add a new VM by VMM it get all list of VM networks but not old VMs: list is empty.

Questions:

1. If cluster with existed VMs is added to VMM, is it possible to force to see VM network by existed VMs?
2. Is it possible to set QoS and metric for subnets on hosts by VMM? Or it's possible by PoSH on each host?
3. Is it possible to use QoS by Dynamic balance on team?

Thanks!

Does SCVMM 2012 R2 support Server 2016 SMB shares?

Hi

I'm trying to add a Windows Server 2016 Scale-Out File Server SMB share to the storage providers on SCVMM 2012 R2 but receive the error below:

Error (26311)
Registration of the storage subsystem svlab.domain.com for user DOMAIN\vmmadmin failed from SVSCVMM.domain.com with error code 46006 [SM_RC_SUBSYSTEM_ALREADY_REGISTERED].

Recommended Action
Specify a valid subsystem name, and user credentials for registering the subsystem.

Error (26200)
The volume information for C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\SHARES\VMDISK01 cannot be acquired.

Recommended Action
Select a different share, and then try the operation again.

The cluster is using Storage Space Direct, and I can access it and create files on the share from the VMhosts and the SCVMM box as well. Just wondering if this is an unsupported config and do I have to go to SCVMM 2016....

thanks

Phil
